Modern Times with George Morton and the The Uppsala Chamber Orchestra

After last year’s success with The Gold Rush when Uppsala Chamber Orchestra performed the music for the film, now comes Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times!

Modern Times from 1936 is considered one of the greatest films in cinema history. In his 76th film, Charlie Chaplin was behind most aspects. He produced and directed, wrote the script and music, and played the leading role.

The film has no dialogue and uses only music and sound effects. Modern Times marks the first and only time the world hears the Little Tramp’s voice, and it is also the last film featuring Chaplin’s tragicomic character. “He always seeks love, but his feet get in the way,” Chaplin said about the Little Tramp.

Modern Times is a timeless satire of technological progress and individualistic society. Machines have replaced humans, and humans are treated like machines. But with humor as his weapon, Charlie Chaplin enters the fight against the downsides of modern society.

Uppsala Chamber Orchestra With a stylistic range extending from grand symphonies to intimate chamber music works, Uppsala Chamber Orchestra has performed live music for the county’s residents for over 50 years. In recent years, the orchestra has made acclaimed guest appearances in Estonia, at concert halls in Gothenburg, Vara and Norrköping, as well as at Artipelag on Värmdö.
