City Lights with the The Budapest Scoring Orchestra

Müpa Budapest has a truly special event in store for Valentine’s Day: Charlie Chaplin’s classic City Lights will be screened with its original score in the Bartók Béla National Concert Hall. In this film, Chaplin reprises his role as the loveable tramp, who, this time, falls in love with a blind flower girl, and pretends to be a millionaire to win her heart. According to contemporary accounts, even Albert Einstein, the guest of honour at the 1931 premiere, was moved to tears by the film’s unforgettable final scene – no wonder it still has a powerful impact on audiences to this day. Widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces in cinema history, the film’s immense success owes much to the outstanding original score composed by Chaplin himself. On this occasion, the music will be performed live by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, which specialises in playing music from world-famous films and series, such as Parasite and Squid Game.
